Rishika Sablawat

Welcome to Typographic Playing Cards, a project where I took on the challenge of designing playing cards using only one typeface - Monotype Corsiva. For me, the unique and beautiful ends of the descenders and ascenders of this typeface reminded me of the stunning architecture found in my hometown, Jaipur. Each card in this deck features motifs that draw inspiration from the intricate designs and patterns found in the city's iconic architecture. By breaking down and deconstructing the typeface, I was able to incorporate elements from it to create these motifs. The suits have also been given a new look, swapping out traditional black and red for a rich ochre and red to match the warm hues of Jaipur's sandstone structures.
